What is a Cluster Admin?
In order for clusters to manage user access across Horizons, they require at least one CLUSTERADMIN user. Being a CLUSTERADMIN is different to having cluster access.
CLUSTERADMIN is the highest level of access within a MAT. It allows all schools in the cluster to be viewed and edited from one single sign-in. It also provides the ability to grant multi-school access to selected users, for specific schools, or all schools within the cluster (users can also be given a different user access level in their ‘home’ school to any of their additional schools).
CLUSTERADMIN users can either be created at MAT level or exist as a user in a particular school within the MAT. Both would still have access to all schools in the MAT with the user associated with a school seeing their 'home' school when logging in. The MAT level user would see the Cluster Dashboard on login (both can still access the Cluster Dashboard).
If your cluster does not current have a user assigned to this access level, the head of the trust or central team can request one via email as our support team are unable to grant multi school access.
How to Add a new user at Cluster level
Navigate to the People > Staff tab and select Add new user / staff:
Complete the required fields and select Cluster Admin from the User Type. Also ensure that the 'Member of Cluster Staff field is set (please note that you can also select a school from the 'Member of school' field which will add them to the staff list in the school selected):
Once saved, the user will be able to head to the login page and click the 'first time login' to generated a password email.
How to set up additional school access for school-level users
Head to the user profile from Admin > Staff (school level) or People > Staff (cluster level) and navigate to the User Access menu. From here, you will see a 'Roles and Access Permissions' area:
If the user requires access to all cluster schools, set the 'Cluster Staff needs access to' your cluster and tick the 'Access applies to the whole cluster' tick box. The user will inherit their school level User Access Level across all schools in the selected cluster.
To set access to additional schools, still select your cluster in the 'Cluster Staff needs access to' field and then save the profile.
The 'Add' button in Additional School Access can then be used to choose the additional school along with access level in that school.
Repeat the process to add additional schools
