Horizons and Pupil Asset are browser-based management systems accessible on any internet-connected computer. However, their performance relies on your browser's capabilities. Note that they work best with Google Chrome and do not support older versions of Internet Explorer (anything before IE9) for the latest system upgrades. If you encounter problems despite having an updated browser, follow four helpful tips to ensure your browser is current and properly connects to the system.
Resetting Your User Cache
Your 'cache' is a set of temporary data that helps you navigate the system quickly. It usually updates as you use the system, but sometimes stored data or previous display choices can cause a page to not load correctly. To remove your cache, just click your name at the screen's top and select 'My Settings.'
In the Options pop-up, you can then click System on the left, then at the bottom of the screen, next to Session Preferences, click Reset your cache .
This can take a few minutes depending when your cache was last cleared.
Saving School Options (Admins Only)
Just like your personal settings, your school's data is stored temporarily for quick access. Major data changes might make these shortcuts outdated temporarily, but the system will fix this over time. Admin users can make this faster by saving school options, which clears the stored data and ensures proper connections.
To do this, go to Admin > School Options > School Information, and at the bottom of the page, click Save School Options. The time it takes depends on when your stored data was last cleared.
Updating Google Chrome
For smooth operations like printing and downloading, having an up-to-date browser is crucial.
We suggest using Google Chrome for accessing Horizons/Pupil Asset because it's regularly updated and secure. Sometimes, school networks may block updates, causing issues with Horizons. To ensure functionality, check that your browser is current.
To do this, click the three dots at the top-right of your browser, then select Help > About Google Chrome, as shown in the screenshot. Chrome will update or confirm it's already up to date.
If you're uncertain about your Chrome version, visit this link and ensure the first two digits of the version number are correct.
If Chrome can't update itself and your version is outdated, contact your IT technician for assistance in updating.
Clearing Browser Cache
Your browser also remembers data about the websites you visit and stores this is its own cache.
This data can occasionally be out-of-date, if we have updated Horizons and your browser hasn’t caught up yet.
To clear your browser cache, again click on the three vertical dots in the top-right of Chrome. Click on History > History and then Clear browsing data.
On the Clear browsing data screen:
– Set Time range to ‘ All time ’
– Un-tick Browsing history.
– Tick both Cookies and Cached images .
– Then, click Clear Data.
This can take a few minutes and will log you out of any active sessions on Horizons or any other websites.
